The Day After

All Day of the Dead is over, and a new day has begun.

We had an excellent turnout for yesterday's All Day of the Dead marathon. Vonna and I want to thank everyone who came out to celebrate the 40th anniversary of George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead: Kyle*, Chris*, Phil*, Martin, Jeremy, Tony, Karen, Stan, Bob, Ari, Michael, and Becky.

We had four attendees (marked above with an *) that arrived before the noon premiere of Night of the Living Dead (1990) and stayed through Diary of the Dead which ended just after midnight, so for that we'll be donating $200 to the Bob Wilkins Alzheimer's fund. There were also three additional folks at the screening of the original Night of the Living Dead, so that will raise our total donation to $230.

As a special thank you, all of the die-hard dead heads received a Monroeville Zombies hockey Jersey. All Day of the Dead name badges were also distributed to all guests, as were official Bob Wilkins Creature Features Fan certificates. Everyone present for the prime time screening of Night of the Living Dead (1968) also received a replica insurance certificate in the event that they died of fright. Fortunately, no one did, as we didn't really have the coverage in place...

At our peak, we had 10 people in the theater during Dawn of the Dead, and averaged 7 throughout the day.

As usual, we had plenty of related artifacts on display, from the 25th anniversary silver mylar poster for Night of the Living Dead...

Scripts from each of the films...

A Night of the Living Dead style music box, a vial of actual dirt from the Evans City Cemetery where Night was filmed, books and materials signed by the majority of the cast and crew...

And a special shrine to Bob Wilkins, who we were supporting with the day's event...

Just inside the theater, I had displayed the photos I took from my visit to the Evans City Cemetery filming locations...

And my original prop newspaper from Day of the Dead...

As always, Vonna put out quite a spread and kept updating it throughout the day.

Kyle brought some event appropriate cookies...

And thought you'll miss them if you don't look closely, some gummy brains that were a hit with the crowd.

So that draws to a close our last major movie marathon of 2008. On behalf of all of us at the Slaughtered Lamb Cinema, including our 12" Bill Hinzman Night of the Living Dead ghoul doll, we thank you for your continued support.

And remember, "they're dead... they're all messed up."

Which Dead films are right for you?

I though a special rating system might help those of you determining which films to attend. I've rated each film in terms of how good I think it is (No Brains = check yours at the door, 4 Brains = Classic), and how gory it is (No Guts = Kid friendly, 4 Intestines = Eat at your own risk).

Night of the Living Dead (1990)

Dawn of the Dead (1979)

Day of the Dead (1985)

Land of the Dead (2005)

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Diary of the Dead (2008)
